Dog Day at the Beach

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend a weekend afternoon with your pooch in Brooklyn, look no further than the beach. Yes, the beach.  A friend recently let us know that dogs are allowed on Coney Island and Brighton beach from October 1 until May 1. As soon as we learned this, we were in a Zip Car on our way to bird chasing action on the sand. According to the Parks Department, there are “leash rules” but the beach was pretty much empty with the exception of a few off leash dogs, their owners and some old folks who didn’t seem to mind us. Seeing Laly run free on the sand was priceless and sure beat going to the dog run.

  1. What a fun day! I’m sad to hear that the beach is closed to dogs in the summer. We hope to be in the NYC area in September. Maybe we’ll have to extend our travels so Gus can visit on October 1st. 😀

Sure looks like the LalyPup had a fantastic time at the beach. She must have been exhausted by the time she went home. That Zip Car was probably a sand box.

I had no idea dogs were allowed on the beach until May 1! Thanks for sharing. I think Reggie’s got a date with some seagulls this weekend.
