We recently checked out of the city and into Emerson Resort and Spa at Mount Tremper to enjoy the cool mountain air. This pet friendly destination in the Hudson Valley is a three plus hour drive from New York City. It’s worth the trip if you plan to spend a few days, given the property’s private dog run and proximity to hiking trails where your dog can roam off leash.
We spent an afternoon in Woodstock hiking the steep Overlook Mountain Ascent regarded for panoramic views and an abandoned inn with lots of nooks to explore. The moderate to difficult trail is a great way to spend the day and we came across tons of other dogs off leash. Just watch out for the deer poop, which for whatever reason is appealing to dogs.
Back at Emerson a toasty fire and local beer awaited. The plush middle eastern inspired rooms have amazing spa showers and baths perfect to soothe sore muscles. The wine fridge, which doubled as a night table was also a nice touch. Service at the hotel was pretty hands off but helpful when needed. There was no room service but take out from an on-site pub hit the spot. The best part of our stay was having Laly right by our side the whole time. We recommend this spot and would return.
