Let’s hear it for Cassius, the German Shepherd from Brooklyn who received top honors from the American Kennel Club (AKC) for his good deeds. This week, the AKC Humane Fund announced the winners of the 11th annual Awards for Canine Excellence (ACE), which commemorates five dogs for making outstanding contributions to communities. Cassius and his owner Peter Taft were recognized in the Search and Rescue category. Cassius and Peter are superheros in my book. Their work ranges from volunteering in Louisiana after Katrina to assisting in Haiti after the earthquake. On a more local level the duo has worked with the Bed Sty Volunteer Ambulance Corp.
