September is National Guide Dog Month

Did you know September is National Guide Dog Month? Today’s Daily News features Brooklynite Lucas Matthiessen and his trusted guide dog Goose, a Labrador/Golden Retriever mix. The Cobble Hill resident gradually lost his vision to a degenerative eye disease but thanks to his loyal companion, Matthiessen enjoys an independent life. Goose is one of many pups raised as guide dogs by volunteers from the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, a nonprofit guide dog school in Long Island.

Support this cause on Sept. 20, as local comedian Brian Fischler and his guide dog Nash, host Laugh for Sight 5 at Gotham Comedy Club. The benefit will feature John Oliver of The Daily Show, plus Robert Klein and Dave Attel, among other comics.
